Waves, instabilities and turbulence in geophysical and astrophysical flows

8-19 Jul 2019
Institut d'Etudes Scientifiques de Cargèse - Cargèse (France)

Various phenomena such as waves, instabilities and turbulence are ubiquitous in almost all geophysical and astrophysical flows. Their properties are often associated with a specific property of the medium, which can be encountered in very different systems. Stratification, rotation, magnetic fields are among the important effects that govern some dynamical properties of systems as different as atmospheres, oceans, planetary interiors, stars and accretion disks. While these systems are usually analyzed in specific geophysical and astrophysical departments, fundamental fluid dynamics studies are often performed in engineering and physics departments. The goal of the workshop is to bring together all these researchers interested in geophysical and astrophysical fluid dynamics, and to provide for the student and the confirmed researcher, the fundamental fluid mechanics background as well as the last research developments in each context.
