Turbulence and Instabilities in Plasma Flows

Plasmas are operated every day in research, industrial and public facilities, with breakthrough plasma technologies being already at the base of modern nuclear reactors, aerospace engineering and satellite infrastructures. Advancing fundamental research on plasmas is therefore essential to support the development of such strategic sectors as fusion energy production, climate and space weather monitoring, navigation and telecommunications. This workshop on turbulence and instabilities in plasma flows will address fundamental issues as well as major engineering applications of the research on plasmas. It will gather scientists working on novel theoretical and numerical methods for the simulation of plasmas, space plasma missions and next generation of experimental plasma facilities. The workshop will host the kick-off meeting of the recently approved ERCOFTAC "Special Interest Group” – SIG #50 (www.ercoftac.org/special_interest_groups/50_geoastro/) on geophysical fluids and astrophysical plasmas.
