English : This workshop is organized in the framework of the Megha-Tropiques satellite mission Ground Validation activities (MTGV) and will discuss methodological issues in Satellite Products Validation and Hydrological applications in the Tropics. The discussion will focus on Ground Validation Methodological issues and also on the preliminary results from the Megha-Tropiques Validation campaigns in the Tropics The following discussion topics will be developped : -Error or uncertainty models for Satellite products : theory versus empirism -Accounting for ground truth uncertainties in products diagnostic -Sampling and scale issues : Impact on apparent product performances -Dealing with intermittency – validation of rain/ no rain mask -Alternative to rain gauge based ‘truth' in the Tropics -Indirect or hydrological validation techniques (use of basin outflow , surface moisture measurements etc.) -Analyzing and quantifying Hydrological models sensitivity to satellite rainfall bias and uncertainty. -Preliminary diagnostic of BRAIN instant rain rate retrieval using tropical weather radar -TAPEER daily accumulations performances -West African Super site and other radar and densified gauges networks
