Determinantal point processes and fermions

6-8 févr. 2019
TBC, Université de Lille, France - Lille (France)

Fermion point processes were introduced by Macchi in 1975 to describe "the ideal detection of fermions in thermal equilibrium". Since then, these point processes have lived a life of their own in probability, statistics, machine learning, and signal processing, often renamed "determinantal point processes" (DPPs) when the connection to physics became more anecdotal. This workshop will bring scientists from mathematics, physics, and signal processing together, to try to relate fermions and DPPs once again, and see what light each concept can shed on the other.
